Let’s see if I can write an artist’s statement:
Joseph Foss is an interdisciplinary artist who uses art to explore the subconscious and its effect on our waking life and our memories. He attempts to form connections across temporal barriers through the use of sound recording, dreams, auto drawing and asmr. This entails an inquisition of the meaning of signal repetition. As symbols repeat, we can take meaning from them, even if we don’t know what the meaning is supposed to be. In this way, a related series of signals from the unconscious, if respected and harnessed, can lead to channels of understanding in our waking life that may not otherwise be available to us. My IG is mostly semi-abstract and fantastical scenes. I prefer not to draw from references.
I’ve also done some projects where I attempted to bring sound recording into my art.
